I grew up on TGIF: “Full House”, “Family Matters”, “Perfect Strangers”, “Step by Step”. True, sometimes “Full House” made me feel guilty about my life. It seemed like I was never getting into trouble for doing the same things that Stephanie and DJ got busted for on a weekly basis; my conscience wanted me to go to my parents and confessions my misdeeds, but then “Family Matters” would start and I would laugh at Urkel and forget what I was feeling guilty about in the first place.
Then sitcoms just got dumb, and I swore them off.
Until two years ago when I discovered “How I Met Your Mother.”
I can’t take credit for “discovering” the show; that goes to my sister. She had actually been telling me to watch it for over a year. Pretty much every show she tells me to watch is awesome, so I don’t know why it took me so long to check out “HIMYM”. The first episode I ever saw was the one where Robin and Ted decide to move in together, and Barney has a big problem with that. I laughed so hard, my sides hurt.
I now own seasons 1 and 2, but I’ve also seen every episode that’s aired. I think Barney is AWESOME; I want to marry Marshall. Ted drives me nuts; I want all of Lily’s wardrobe. And Robin? She was a teen pop star in Canada.
I brought season 2 with me to Dave’s, and the three of us spent the ENTIRE day watching their antics. All I wanted to do today was sit on the couch and be lazy. What can you do when the entire city is sitting under two feet of snow? Yeah, we could have watched something else. We could have turned off the TV and listened to music. None of that could have been nearly as fulfilling as watching Barney on “The Price is Right” or witnessing the origin of the epic Slap Bet.
This show just never. Gets. Old.
I think I like it because they’re a group of 20/30 somethings that seem real and relate-able. For goodness’ sake, they hang out in a bar. SO much more realistic than a coffee shop.
If you still need proof that this show is the most AWESOME thing ever, watch this clip. It’s going to be legen…wait for it…I hope you’re not lactose intolerant…
…DARY.
I cannot WAIT to have the opportunity to use the “legen….dary” thing on someone. Oh, I hope I can work it into a conversation tonight when I get off work!! I just laughed entirely too loud at my desk. This is why I’m so glad you’re my friend hahaha
