April 27th: Mimi

Sorry, Megan.  She beat you to the punch this time!

If you’re staying up-to-date with this blog, then you know two things for sure:

  1. I love my Nintendo Wii.
  2. I’m actually achieving some success in making lifestyle changes.

What does this have to do with Mimi?  Well, today I decided to take a random Body Test on Wii Fit Plus.  Not only did my Wii Fit age increase to 34, but the balance board on the screen was trying to tell me that I’d gained approximately 3 pounds since Sunday!  Inconceivable!

I was angry and disappointed for about 2.5 seconds, when I heard Mimi’s voice in my head saying, “Don’t worry about the numbers on the scale, it’s all about how your clothes fit. Mmhmm! I went to lots and lots of skool just to learn that little gem!”  Mimi has a graduate degree form Columbia Teacher’s College in the Program in Nutrition.  She kind of knows what she’s talking about

I immediately felt better.  Mimi was right.  Regardless of what the scale said tonight, my jeans are looser, I feel better, and my workouts are getting easier.  THAT’S what’s important.

If you’re wondering about the spelling of “skool” above, that quote came from another one of the reasons I love Mimi; about three years ago, she started a GoogleDoc called “Big Girl Prevention 2K8.  Don’t hate.  Appreciate.”  This is kind of like a virtual workout buddy.  Every day, we write a blurb about what exercise we did that day, the duration, and comments.  The best part?  Comments from the peanut gallery.

This GoogleDoc helped me lose about 20lbs that year, and then I fell off the wagon.  But I’m back on it now, and BGP2k8 has made it’s way into 2K10…or whatever they’re calling it these days.

Another reason Mimi rules:  about three weeks ago, she finished her first 10-miler, which inspired both Laurel and me to run a 5K.  I’ll be running in the 3rd annual Amazon Conservation Team Run for the Rainforest 5K in June.  Training starts Sunday!  And yes, I know it’s only 3 miles, but girl gotsta train.  I am no runner.

So thanks homes.  Thanks for being an inspiration!  I will hold your gold any day of the week.
